Scissor Sisters Central: Paddy Boom calls from Germany, interview next week

In downtown Seattle on Wednesday morning hundreds of "American Idol" hopefuls, who survived the previous day tryouts at Key Arena, were lined up outside the W Hotel ready to chase their dreams of success. On Capitol Hill that same morning, my phone rang and it was Paddy Boom from Scissor Sisters, a band so successful that they can't go anywhere without being hounded for autographs or photos. Some people desperately want a shot at fame, and some wouldn't mind giving a pinch of it back. Interesting, eh? Anyway, in between ordering room service and waiting for food to be delivered to his hotel suite, Paddy Boom rang the Seattle Gay News offices and we spoke about the group's upcoming tour, media hog Paris Hilton, and Diesel jeans. Plus, I got the lowdown on what's spinning in his iPOD right now. So come back next week for a one-on-one interview with Paddy Boom of Scissor Sisters here in "The Music Lounge".

Scissor Sisters Central: CD-release party at Manray, buy it there and receive a limited edition poster

"Scissor Sisters Central", a one-stop information source for all things Scissor Sisters powered by Seattle Gay News, is pleased to announce a CD-release party to unveil the Grammy-nominated band's new album Ta-Dah. Presented by Seattle Gay News, Manray Video Bar, Sonic Boom Records and Universal Music Group, the party is the centerpiece of this week's "Alternative Tuesdays" at Manray (514 E Pine). Sonic Boom Records will sell copies of Ta-Dah at the party, so buy one there and receive a free limited edition poster created by a local artist, as a gift with purchase. We'll also have other posters and stickers to give away, and we'll play Scissor Sisters' new music video "Don't Feel Like Dancin'" throughout the night. "Alternative Tuesdays" spins the coolest videos by the hottest alternative artists, like Wolfmother, We Are Scientists, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and Bjork. The party kicks off shortly after 9pm.

Grammy winners Basement Jaxx interview for Fall Arts issue in two weeks

London-based dance duo Basement Jaxx just released a new CD entitled Crazy Itch Radio, a much-anticipated follow-up to their Grammy-winning album Kish Kash. The English pair, a favorite with club queens on both sides of the Atlantic, is currently playing a short string of concert dates in Europe and is in the process of putting together a US tour itinerary for late winter or early spring. If that isn't enough to keep them occupied, Jaxx member Simon Ratcliffe is days away from being a first-time dad. On the morning I spoke with Ratcliffe, the family's hired midwife had arrived at his home and was awaiting instructions. I actually paused a couple of times during our conversation to allow him to talk with the midwife. Needless to say, Ratcliffe is very excited about the upcoming birth of his child. And we here at Seattle Gay News are very excited to have Basement Jaxx as the feature artist interview for our Fall Arts issue on October 6.

SEAL, Van Morrison, All-American Rejects scheduled to play at new WaMu Theater

Grammy winner SEAL, married happily to "Project Runway" diva Heidi Klum, is headed to Seattle in two months. The artist, who gave us the hit singles "Kiss from a Rose", "Crazy" and "Don't Cry", will help christen the new WaMu Theater on November 3. The venue is a state-of-the-art music and live entertainment center which will be set up inside Qwest Field. In other words, it's a portable mini-arena that can flexibly seat crowds between 3370 and7000 people. Besides SEAL, legendary folk artist Van Morrison and MTV VMA winners All-American Rejects have been announced to perform at WaMu Theater. Tickets for these shows are available at all Ticketmaster outlets. For more information on the venue, visit www.wamutheater.com.
