Lipstick and Lust
Love's challenges overcome; lust starts to bloom in the midst of horrid weather; and so much more in this Lipstick and Lust
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

Well girls (and you Gay boys that have told me you read this column too!), loving someone in the military is anything but easy, and yet, tears, missed connections, long stretches of no 'sumpsump'nm,' I can't say I've ever been more alive and more in love. If you feel the earth move this weekend, that's because sweetie might be getting a four day weekend (oh joy, my little heart is beating like a drum at that thought!), so we'll be cruisin' 'planet love/lust' until we're as exhausted as little bunnies in spring. Can I get an a-wimmin? Oh yes!

Ah, and with the weather we've been having, I've been quite the little 'Betty Crocker' in my too small kitchen, whipping up nourishing and soul warming soups. Hey, nothing soothes an aching heart when one misses her lover than a good bowl of home made soup, and at the end of a day being pelted by Seattle's torrential showers and the wind that usually accompanies said showers, soup is indeed good food. So, to start things right off, I'll give you the recipe for one of my faves that I made last weekend, when my sugar puss was supposed to come over but couldn't drag the old bod out of the new apartment after being drenched by rain.

The ingredients for two people (double or triple depending on your own needs), two large purple potatoes, three small yukon gold potatoes, all chopped into bite size pieces, and three medium carrots, two small eggplants (if you're not a fan, you can substitute broccoli, cauliflower, or even cabbage), peeled and cut into bite size pieces. In a pan, sauté all with half a chopped onion, two cloves of garlic, about a fourth of a cup of fresh parsley, two tablespoons of hot curry powder, a pinch of cayenne powder, salt and pepper to taste, and enough canola oil to cover the veggies and keep them from sticking to the pan. When everything's almost done, pour the whole kit and kaboodle into a large soup pot or sauce pan, depending on how much you're making and simmer under enough water, and fresh apple cider to cover the veggies. Add about a fourth of a cup of cider vinegar (heck, even pickle juice works if you have empties in the fridge, as you're as much of a pickle fan as myself!). Cook until everything's completely soft and the eggplant is dark and squishy. Oh, you can also add shitake mushrooms if you like, just sauté with the other veggies then add to the soup. For a side, have pickles and some good Gouda as well as either a crunchy whole wheat bread, or crackers. Fruit and cheese for dessert and you'll think you've magically been transported to France. In my next column, I'll tell you how the potato soup I'm making for my love bunny turns out!

So, now that you have a great soup to keep you strong and healthy through this awful weather, here are some things to keep you gorgeous, should you decide to venture out. First, I must recommend that even guys moisturize in this weather if you want skin to die for. And my best recommendation besides the line of Cosmedicine products Sephora carries would be Jason's Cocoa Butter 'Ultra-intensive Moisturizing Crème. You can use this on your face and the whole body for a super soft, touchable look and feel. And do try Urban Decay's 'Pina Colada Body Balm' for a glittery sheen if you're out on the town. It smells delightful too. Also, three scents I highly recommend for bringing potential loves closer, or making your hottie notice you more, are Ralph Lauren's 'Hot', Hermes 'Elixir de Merveilles' and Betsy Johnson's new signature scent. All guaranteed by moi to get heads turning wherever you go.

So, that's it for now my little pluots (oh yes, for the freshest veggies and fruits do get yourself over to either the U-District farmer's market or the one on Broadway, which happen every Saturday from 9 AM until 2 PM and 11 AM until 3 PM respectively). Remember, to keep lips soft and kissable, you can't go wrong with Dr. Bronner's lip balms, which you can find, along with Burts Bees' lip balms at Madison Market, or some of the new glosses at Body Shop in Pacific Place. Me, I'm off to buy these very sexy red heels at 9-West in Westlake Mall, to hopefully temp my love this weekend, which dahlings, I'll tell you all about next column.

Do e-mail me at ijanaral@yahoo.com and let me know your thoughts on this column and stay tuned for my blog any week now.. Buhbye!
