Whether you're a trekker, into 'Stargate-SG1', or your taste runs more toward the femmes in martial arts films, or those manga grrlz, The Modern Amazons: Warrior Women On-Screen will have something to offer you. With tasty tidbits of information and scads of great photos, the book is literally a goldmine of information on some of the earliest female 'warrior women' as well as some of the more modern ones like 'Star Trek: The Next Generation's 'Captain Janeway' and 'Seven of Nine'..
Virtually a geek girl's fantasy book, The Modern Amazons has just about every woman hero (shero), from my fave, 'Emma Peel', from the sixties show, 'The Avengers', to some later faves like 'Xena', 'Barbwire', and those amazing ladies from the martial arts films, Hero, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the landlady from Kung Fu Hustle, and so many more that your eyes will be sore from trying to absorb it all.
And yes, there are some fifties book jacket photos of little known 'women warriors' of the time, and lots of attention given to the ladies in Kill Bill, and great role models like 'Hermione' in Harry Potter, as well as some mainstream goodies like 'The Power Puff Girls' and Mulan. Definitely a great gift for the fan of action women, or just a great book to pick up to get you through one of these frosty nights we're having. Available all over, I'm sure.
