Go East Young Ham
Richard Hugo House
Closed November 10th
The skit about a 'truckstop waitress' squaring off with a 'geisha' was definitely worth going by myself to see. The recently closed laugh-fest, 'Go East, Young Ham', put on by one of my favorite local comedy troupes, Pork Filled Players, was another great production.
Other skits included a 'past life society, peopled by the likes of Jesse James, Genghis Khan, who had to decide if a new member -- a cybergeek who had caused political havoc -- could join or not, and a guilt tripping Korean couple who made an art out of making their daughter tow the line. And, in spite of my permanent down mood of late, I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. But, don't despair if you missed all of that fun and silliness. The spunky and prolific group is going to be a part of 'Insatiable', the first Asian-American Playwrights Festival, this Saturday, at the Northwest Actors Studio. They also have another show, this time a full play, coming up in March, so stay tuned.
For tickets and information about the Playwrights Festival, visit www.sis-productions.org or call 206-323-9443. I'm sure you won't be disappointed, and these guys will warm you up for sure.
