For me, who can't afford a trip to Italy or even Hawaii, Norwescon is my little 'home away from home' every year, almost a vacation. Close enough that I look forward to the whole shebang that is one of the biggest sci-fi/fantasy cons on the West coast, and one that brings visitors from as far away as Germany, Japan and Australia. And if you haven't gotten in on the fun, this year would be the perfect time for you to get your feet wet (or your whistle, if you imbibe, at one of the many room parties).
This being the 30th year for Norwescon, you can expect lots of unexpected bonuses, and maybe even some impromptu guests-one year Anne McCaffrey showed up unannounced, who knows what might happen this year. And of course, there'll be plenty of sci-fi and fantasy related workshops, panels and the usual people watching joys, as con goers model their most outrageous and splendid handmade and imaginatively created costumes.
You can also buy a 'piece' of Norwescon, either by purchasing art from the Art Room, or any of a number of delightful items (sword and flogger anyone?) from the dealer's room. And later, hang out with old and new friends at The Masquerade, Norwescon answer to all of those boring, mundane driven talent shows. And if you're into late night fun and games of a more raunchy nature, join everyone who's wild enough for any of a plethora of room parties, the most fun one still being the one that Biohazard throws (with Merchants of Deva and The Cult of Scott Bakula also being ones to check out).
So, go to www.norwescon.org for more info and join all of the fandom, April 5-8th at the Doubletree/SeaTac.
