Ralph Wallin April 25, 1957 - April 4, 2007 -- Les Emmett
Ralph Wallin

Merry Maker and Mischief Maker

Ralph was a man who was truly bisexual. He enjoyed men, women and transsexuals, all. Women, however, were the ones to whom he gave his heart and who were his ultimate undoing. He died, by suicide, on April 4, 2007. During his lifetime, he had a relationship which produced a daughter, McKenzie.

Ralph Wallin, a native of New Orleans, came to Washington in 1976 to attend the Evergreen State College where he studied Fine Wood Working. As a student of Evergreen, he established himself as am member of the Mud Bay compound and was a dedicated partier and merry maker. Many of his house mates, classmates and friends remained in his company to present day. After graduation, Ralph moved to Seattle and began work as a Fine Wood Worker with Hoge Design. Upon the retirement of Hoge Design's founder and owner, Ralph assumed the ownership and continued the business under his own name. As an accomplished craftsman he enjoyed many worthy projects in antiques restoration as his principal endeavor. His skills were well known and he maintained a clientele of owners of fine furniture.

Ralph was also well known in the Seattle Gay Community as a frequenter of local bars, mainly Changes, CC's and the Cuff. For several years, Ralph and his side kick, Jim, sponsored a Christmas Eve pub crawl to which others joined in, at will. However, no matter what the setting, Ralph was known for his humor and mischief. He was always ready for a party and a round of drinks. He was always ready to tell stories of his adventures and misadventures.

He was a man of high spirits, generosity, unexpected kindness, and dedication to those he loved. He was also a man of ongoing mischief into which he pulled others for better or for worse. Many of us shared in those adventures and misadventures to our delight and distress. He could be a best friend, an annoyance, but always fun.

Ralph is survived by his daughter, McKenzie and sisters, Nancy and Linda.

A Memorial Party will be held at 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on April 20, 2007 at the Bath House at Golden Gardens in Ballard. Friends of Ralph are welcomed to attend. The Party is a Pot Luck. Please bring a dish to share and your own beverage.
