In life, we continually strive to overcome individual challenges. Less than 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, which would alter my life forever. It was my will to survive and achieve my dreams that propelled me to face each of my fears. During this time of transition, I encountered many obstacles within our community. Once I was able to gain sustainability of life and integrate back into society, I was able to continue to pursue my dreams and aspirations, but with a newfound wisdom and desire to advocate for the needs of our community.

In February, I was asked to share my personal story with our community and be the Masters of Ceremonies for the 2007 Mad Hatter's Ball--a fund raising event for Strength for the Journey. Strength for the Journey-a program since 1990 of the non-profit organization Pacific Northwest Conference provides a free annual retreat for those living with HIV/AIDS. The facilities are located on 40 forested acres, at the foot of Mt. Si in the Cascade foothills. Here, "Journeyers" are afforded the opportunity to gather together to share stories of inspiration, attend workshops, laugh, play, and gain spiritual rejuvenation without having to think about their illness.

This year, Strength for the Journey will host --The 2007 Mad Hatter's Ball, a fund raising event that takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 7:00 PM. The purpose of this event is two-fold: to share stories of inspiration with fellow journeyers and enjoy entertainment from some of the Northwest's finest female impersonators; and to gain support through your contribution for the work of this great organization.
