Gay former Burien city councilmember seeks to return to post - Stephen Lamphear to run again after losing seat in 2005
Two-term former Gay Burien City Councilmember Stephen Lamphear announced today he will seek election to return to the city council.

"Stephen Lamphear was a model for what a city legislator should be -- on thought, on task, and on the job," notes longtime former state Representative Georgette Valle in her autobiography (2007).

In his previous two terms on the council, Lamphear championed the first domestic partners benefits ordinance in a suburban Washington city, and adoption of the only comprehensive anti-discrimination ordinance by a suburban Washington city.

Lamphear made special note that his campaign will comply with the provisions of the state Fair Campaign Practices Code, which requires political campaigns to be conduced in a fair and ethical manner. Lamphear said, "I condemn and will not tolerate any form of smear tactics by anyone, whether volunteers, supporters or otherwise, against any other candidate.

Lamphear holds a Master's degree in Public Administration. A small business owner for 31 years, he also worked in both government and corporate business.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer (2003) called Stephen "A white knight with a green thumb" for his founding of the Highline Botanical Garden. He volunteers with the Highline Historical Society, Burien Little Theatre and Burien Senior Center.

The campaign can be reached at Lamphear for Council, 12011 -18th Ave. SW, Burien 98146, by telephone 206-439-7362 or by email to stephenlamphear@gmail.com
