The Seattle Gay News is pleased to present a special supplement commemorating the first day of the Domestic Partnership Registry in Olympia on July 23, 2007. We join with the many excited and joy filled faces contained in our pages as we celebrate one more step in a journey toward full marriage equality. The SGN wishes to thank the dozens of couples who agreed to have their pictures appear here in our pages. The diversity of these couples and the life experiences they have shared together has been an inspiration to us while preparing this supplement. We hope decision-makers across Washington State will also be so moved. Our staff has spent many hours preparing the special supplement, matching names to pictures and laying out the pages with care. Unfortunately, not all of the photos turned out and we were unable to identify the couples in two pictures. We will attempt to obtain new photos or identify the individuals and run them next week. The SGN is committed to sharing the stories of same-sex couples with our readers as a reminder to us all how important it is as a strategy for social change. As part of that commitment, the SGN will be running pictures of newly-registered domestic partners on a regular basis over the next year free of charge. Finally, we wish to thank Equal Rights Washington for being our partner in this project. It is always a pleasure to work with another organization that shares the same desire to serve and advocate for Washington State's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. |
