Shopping with a shot of culture
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

If you're one of those people who isn't into the big crowds at malls and downtown, here are some great places to both see some stunning art exhibits and pick up some unusual gifts as well. Definitely the most eclectic of art galleries has to be Art/Not Terminal, located at Westlake and Lenora. The current exhibit upstairs features artists Brieanna Wellman and daughter/artist Joan Czeslawa, as well as artist Patrick Donnelly, Jr. You can also take home a nice little selection of postcards, knickknacks and pieces of art from this member-run gallery. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

You can also pick up some nice pieces of art on The Hill at Martin-Zambito, a Gay-run gallery on Pike that features the best in local and national art. If you wander over to Wild Rose, there is new art up, and I'm sure there are ways to reach the artist. You could gift someone with a work of art for the upcoming holiday, or gift yourself and support an artist at the same time.

Also, don't neglect to check out both the art and teas and tea accessories at Floating Leaves tea shops in Ballard - and if you wander in after this week, you can probably congratulate the owner on the birth of her new little one. Don't forget that both the Henry Art Museum and Tacoma Art Museum's stores have great gift ideas, and both have new and ongoing shows that are definitely worth checking out, especially the Cecilia Beaux pieces at The Tacoma Art Museum, near the Glass Museum (which undoubtedly has some great gift ideas too).

So if last minute shopping is something you're doing but you want to avoid the stress of it all, hop into any local gallery - including the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park - and see some great exhibits, plus pick up something really sweet (that won't put a planet-sized hole in your wallet) for yourself or someone special on your gift list.
