Hillary Swank sparkles in heartwarming comedy P.S. I Love You
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

P.S. I LOVE YOU OPENS DECEMBER 21

Kathy Bates is a revelation as the concerned, "been around the block" mom in Richard La Gravenese's smart and sexy romantic comedy P.S. I Love You, but the real star is a drop-dead gorgeous Hillary Swank. Swank plays a grieving widow who has just lost her husband (she doesn't think their passionate love will last, and unfortunately it doesn't) and goes so deeply into mourning that her sisters (Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon) decide, with their mom, to take action to "get her back on the horse," as it were.

Swank's character balks at first, but then a magical thing happens: A tape arrives on her birthday telling her letters will be arriving telling her what to do. The tape is from her late husband. Soon her life is on a different keel as letters arrive, urging her to not only leave her apartment and stop mourning, but entreat her to embrace life more than she ever has before. So she dresses up, does karaoke (much against her will at first), and ends up in Ireland, where she finally meets her dead husband's parents and a new man - who turns out to be the man her departed husband played with in a band the night she met him.

A charming, "warm the cockles of your heart," old-fashioned romantic comedy that will have you laughing just as hard as you find yourself crying at poignant moments, P.S. I Love You is the best movie I've seen all year. Hillary Swank is definitely about to make a name for herself as a romantic comedy star, or the world's all on crack. Go see it and believe again, that yes, Hollywood can make good movies that make you feel good, but don't leave a sugary aftertaste.
