DINA MARTINA A HOLIDAY GIFT

What a gift! The Dina Martina show made the holiday season more memorable. A real treasure for the people of Seattle. Video clips, humorous banter, and holiday music with transposed lyrics created a space of very creative theater. Laughter is good medicine for us all. It makes the spirit brighter and Dina Martina has the right venue for sharing that with us. With future bookings in New York City, London, and Hawaii, this performer will share his world of theatricality. Hopefully he'll return next December, blessing us with a show guaranteed to have us smiling again.

HARASSED SOUTHWEST PASSENGER JUST "LOOKING FOR A FIGHT"

Dear Sir,

I read with disappointment Nick Ardizzone's recent articles in the Seattle Gay News, Homophobia at 30,000 feet: A Gay man's ordeal on Southwest Airlines [December 14], and its follow-up, Southwest responds to passenger accusations of homophobia [December 21].

As a Gay man myself, I have had the pleasure of flying on Southwest Airlines for many years, but more significantly, I know the flight attendant in question personally. I can say with absolute confidence she would never make such a derogatory comment about a Gay passenger, or indeed about any passenger. It is my opinion that Mr. Brown was mistaken in what he believed he heard, perhaps owing to his illness or the fact that he was upset that his partner was asked to move to another seat so that a small child could sit next to its mother.

Furthermore, it occurs to me that many Gay men may be under the mistaken impression that straight people are out to get them, and this really is just as bad as genuine homophobia. Instead of going through life defensively, is it not more sensible to live life offensively and with confidence, and not looking for a fight? It has always been my experience that by being an openly Gay man who does not live the stereotype, far more inroads can be made than through pessimism and fear.

Southwest Airlines is an excellent company that embraces diversity, and this flight attendant is a fine example of the "Southwest Spirit." I would encourage every Gay man and woman to continue flying Southwest, and supporting their openness to people from every walk of life.

Yours faithfully,
Daniel Lestarjette
