KVETCH THEATER SHMEATER 1500 SUMMIT AVE. THURSDAY - SATURDAY, 8 PM $18, $15 STUDENT/SENIOR, UNDER 18 FREE THROUGH FEBRUARY 16 Along with a clean bill of health for the cast, Kvetch has a new opening night: January 25. Kvetch makes the audience privy to the inner anxieties of a modern family. Even as they try to behave as civilized members of society, they betray their inner lives as frightenes housewives, lonely divorcees, or uneasy heterosexuals by sharing their innermost kvetches with the audience. David Gassner directs Steven Berkoff's cathartic play, first presented in the U.S. in 1986. A well-known and successful British theatre artist, Steven Berkoff has amassed an impressive body of work, including adaptations of Kafka's Metamorphosis and The Trial. As an actor he has toured in the title roles of Hamlet, Richard II, and Oscar Wilde's Salome. On the big screen he has been seen in such movies as Beverly Hills Cop and Rambo. His theater work having given him reason to travel, Mr. Berkoff has published a book about his wanderings: Shopping in the Santa Monica Mall: The Journals of a Strolling Player. For Kvetch, Theater Schmeater has assembled a talented and skilled cast: Cristopher Berns as Frank, Amelia Meckler as Donna, and Andy Clawson as Hal. George is played by John Kobasic, and Patsy Benson plays The Mother-In-Law. Set design is by Michael Mowery, with lighting design by Sean Begley and sound by Moe Smith. Costumes are by Sarah Svobodny. Stage management and prop design are by Karen Imas. The production is directed by Theater Schmeater's Artistic Director David Gassner.
