Special to the SGN The Emerald City Softball Association began action this last weekend with open C and D division action at North SeaTac Park. Despite some chilly temperatures and a little afternoon rain shower, all games were played and spirits were high as the new season got underway. The open D division saw plenty of lopsided scores with the Pirates experiencing both sides of the coin by first beating the Eclipse by a score of 44-2, winning by an astounding 42 runs, then falling to the Drillers by a final score of 2-19 losing by 17. The closest game of the day was played by the Tsunami and the Wolves with the Tsunami coming back in the bottom of the final inning with three runs to take the game by 1 with a final score of 11-10. Standout performances from week one in the D division included an exciting run-saving tag play at home plate by Peter R. of the Rebels, and Dustin of the Saints, who pitched well and had several clutch hits leading the Saints to two wins and no losses on opening day. There were plenty of blowouts in the open C division, as well. The Alley Cats, Bulldogs and POCO all had double-digit wins en route to a 2 and 0 record to take a share of the early season lead in the division. Standouts included Adam E. of the Animals who contributed several great catches in left field and started a team rally with a long drive to center in a losing effort.
