INAUGURATION ANALOGY
I've been developing some analogies about the inauguration.
There is this huge American plane, Flight 44, taking off at 12 noon on January 20, 2009 - boarding begins at 4 a.m. - dress warmly - be prepared to stand outside in a 20-degree weather for several hours - don't worry about liquids as they will have frozen - the doors will close sharply at noon; however, you may be stranded in a tunnel or restrained behind Jersey barriers and sadly be denied boarding privileges even though you bought your ticket in early November. This is an American hajj - quite different from the Islamic one - where it is hot and millions of people walk around a huge black monolith pelting it with pebbles. But no one gets to wear a hat like Aretha's....

LENNY MAY BRING BACK "JARS IN BARS"
Dear Friends In & Of Our Gay Community:
As President Ford said after Nixon was given the boot, "Finally, our long nightmare is over." I hope so [again today], for everyone ['s sake]. As I have said many times, as we personally and the U.S.A. were going down the drain, the Bushit/Cheatney cabal has done more damage to us in many ways than anyone in our 220 year history. Consequently, President Obama and [the rest of] us have been left with many difficulties: a dirty lying war, the environment, decent rights for women and people of color, our Gay rights and on and on. It will take time, but I feel confident we will have a fresh start with President Obama and the choices in his new administration.
As for me, I am also enthused about progress in our Gay community. So, being the founder of the Chicken Soup Brigade and co-founder and treasurer of SASG [Seattle AIDS Support Group], now Dunshee House, I am contemplating reviving my "Jars in Bars & Businesses" in a limited way. As some may remember, I began "Jars in Bars" in 1987, culminating it in 2005, after raising $500,000 for the Chicken Soup Brigade in 19 years with the help of many generous people. So with this and the able directorships of Carol Sterling and Susan Dunshee, these organizations became what they are today!
Therefore, I intend to change [my] fundraising to other venues, such as supporting youth groups, as they are our future, ultimately. "Times are a'changin'" as they say.
Kindest regards and best wishes to all in 2009 and our future!
Lenny Larson
P.S. I will be 81 years young in February. We're on a roll!
